There is no apparent provision for replacing the eye pieces if scratched or misted. The eyepieces are single thicknesses of celluloid with unpainted steel rims, which are sealed into the mask with white cotton binding. The external fabric on the lower left hand cheek is stamped in black ink 'AGD No R138 C 27', and a large numeral '1' (possibly a size marking) is stamped in black below the eyepieces. The edge of the mask is bound with a fine pale grey cotton fabric, the external seams of which are sealed with a brown rubber compound. A long dark grey cotton webbing strap fits loosely around the neck, enabling the mask to be worn in the 'alert' position. The USA also used Asbestos.German respirator made of grey rubberised cotton with cotton webbing and elastic head straps. The British and the Germans used white asbestos the Australians used blue asbestos and the French and the Czech Republic used a type of Fibre board the Russians used white asbestos. The Russians used asbestos all the way until around the 1970's.The British civilian and British civilian duty gas mask both have asbestos at the botom and later had a green arsines filter attached which also had Asbestos in it, later countries would use Silver to filter out arsines. No, filters that contain asbestos still contain charcoal. If I shake my filter and can hear charcoal than it means my filter does not contain asbestos? It is difficult to tell due to there is not much information, however it has been speculated that most of the filters from the Second World War contain asbestos. It is unknown due to different countries stopped at different times, however, it has been speculated that the large majority of countries using the carcinogen had stopped by the late 1970’s. When did they stop putting asbestos in gas mask filters? It is unknown but has been speculated to be around the late 1920’s to early 1930’s. When was asbestos first put in gas mask filters? Another speculation is that it was added as a particle filter due to how fine asbestos fibres are (however it was later replaced by esparto grass). Later, the filter carbon was impregnated with silver to neutralize the arsenic agents. It has been speculated that the inclusion of asbestos in gas mask filters was in response to the need to combat the warfare agent arsine. Why did they put asbestos in gas mask filters? Start from the bottom first mesh then White asbestos (sometimes mistaken as cotton) then more mesh then Charcoal then some more mesh and cotton pad. The German gas mask filters of WW2 do contain Asbestos in the areosole part of the filter. I've been looking into this again for clarification and apparently German gasmasks do contain asbestos. All though I have head that German ones used charcoal and no asbestos?Īlso how should you go about dealing with the asbestos if it is inside of it, or should it be fine how it is, i don't want to replace any of my gasmaks filters as all my ones are matchingĭo you have any spare instructions for sale for this type Kenny as well? I know nearly all WW2 gas masks had asbestos inside of them and this one may be no exception, but is it safe for me to have on display? (bearing in mind I sleep next to my collection) The filter looks to be ok but there is a slight white powder on the outside of it? I have no idea personally. Now my question is, is it dangerous for display in my room? I am definitely not stupid enough to wear it though, I wouldn't even if its filter was empty Its near complete with only the instructions missing and its in an OK condition (lenses look a bit dirty) I recently managed to get hold of a civil German gas mask for my HJ collection in a very small size for very cheap money at a small military event. “But working with the FalconSAT program, it was a lot less cut and dried. “In the classroom, you worked on equations and formulas to solve problems that were very clear cut,” he says. Then he worked on FalconSAT-8 in its early stages of development.Īn astronautical engineering major, Ahlquist was part of the senior capstone program that requires cadets to be involved in FalconSAT. Once the satellite is operational, FalconSAT-8 will conduct five different tests and demonstrations - the latest generation of plasma thruster, a metamaterials antenna, a carbon nanotubes experiment, an energy surge and control device, and a joint payload with the Air Force Institute of Technology for a low-cost camera. “I’ve seen the failures, and I’ve seen the successes. When he was a cadet working on FalconSAT-2 in 2002, the rocket that was supposed to send the satellite to orbit exploded. Sauter knows the potential perils of launch day. Once we get an understanding that the satellite has survived the environment and it’s functioning, we’ll breathe a little bit easier.” “While we try to knock down the risks, there’s always risk. “With launches, so many things can go wrong,” he says. But he’s cautiously optimistic that everything will come off without a hitch. Launch time is always a mix of excitement and nerves, Sauter reports. “Unfortunately, given the situation, we’re only going to get a couple in person.” “We had a plan to get as many of our cadets out there as we possibly could,” Sauter says. “Then we will initiate our operations from there.”Ī few recent USAFA graduates who previously worked on FalconSAT-8 will be lucky enough to attend the launch at Cape Canaveral. The Coat of Arms is generally inappropriate for use on promotional items such as apparel, drinkwear or other small trinkets. When the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle launches to space this weekend, the hard work of Academy cadets and their instructors will finally head to space. Additionally, it must never be locked up with the Academy logo or wordmark. The Coat of Arms must always appear in grayscale or full color. The Coat of Arms, sometimes referred to as a seal, is composed of the emblem, crest and stars and is primarily used for official and ceremonial documentation, or on prestigious gift items. Appropriate isolation areas should be used around each mark, in order to ensure they stand out and are not seen to combine with backgrounds or other logos. Additionally, they should not be placed over distracting backgrounds, locked up with each other or the Academy wordmark or logomark or combined with other logos. The below marks cannot be modified in any way, to include changing aspect ratio, colors, outlines, drop shadows, adding or deleting words. In this case, the below marks may be more appropriate to convey the proper message in a given situation. There may be times when the official wordmark or logomark is not appropriate for the situation, such as highly formal communications or unofficial, morale purposes. Worse, to further press the council into letting him fire the cannon, he opens a small section of the barrier, hoping to let in a few Phantoms to serve as a sign of increased danger. He believes she is under the control of the Phantoms and assigns Gray to keep an eye on her, splitting his loyalty. After spotting the fragile plant that houses the spirit, Phantoms arrive and she becomes trapped but is rescued at the last moment by Gray Edwards ( Alec Baldwin) and his squad, the “Deep Eyes” security force, consisting of Ryan Whittaker ( Ving Rhames), Neil Fleming ( Steve Buscemi) and Jane Proudfoot ( Peri Gilpin).Īfter returning safely home, Aki and Sid appear before the Leadership Council as they debate the proposed use of the Zeus Cannon, but manages to delay the vote by convincing the council that she is infected but alive because the spirits collected are protecting her. She has collected five and tracked the sixth to the abandoned desolate streets of New York City, outside the barrier. Times are desperate and the leadership has put Earth’s defense in the hands of General General Hein ( James Woods), who is convinced that the only way to defeat the intruders is with an orbiting space energy weapon called the Zeus Cannon, which he intends to fire directly at what appears to be the hub of alien activity, a massive crater where an asteroid crashed.Īki Ross ( Ming-Na) is a scientist who is infected, though that is a secret only she and her colleague, Doctor Sid ( Donald Sutherland) share. The two have discovered a theoretical means of stopping the invaders by gathering the Gaia of eight specific organic items that when combined will negate the deathly effects of the aliens. The Phantoms, as they are known, come in a vast number of species and seem to have no motivation other than to consume the Gaia or ‘soul’ of each person they encounter, though minor contact results only in infection. Survivors have constructed enormous, domed barrier cities that hold back the aliens but keep people in containment. I saw a few discussions in the FTDX10 Facebook group and a few online forums and often I read a response “ You should have researched first before buying a radio”. This review is written from that point of view – the radio usability and reliability. By this I mean the product should do things in a simple, unobtrusive and logical way, not requiring the user to go out of his way to achieve something. I am a strong believer of product usability and I am expecting a product to perform to its specifications, to have high reliability and that the usability of the product is not flawed. However, I had access to a friend’s IC-7300 so I put it alongside the FTDX10 to be able to compare them. I had an IC-7300 previously, but sold it in order to upgrade to IC-7610. Over the following 10 months I kept swapping it with my IC-7610, using both of them for about the same amount of time. I put my IC-7610 aside and set the FTDX10 as my primary radio, just for enough time to learn to really appreciate the latest Yaesu technology and to learn to love this radio. It had a big, crisp and bright touch screen and looked amazing on my desk. The radio was beautiful, the right size, right weight, exactly what I was after. I purchased Yaesu FTDX10 in early 2021 after having read many reviews and watched every video on Youtube that I could find. But it will come along over a long period of time, and we'll be able to deal with it and change our focus and change the way we do business. You can hear that in a 1994 promotional video from Russ Solomon, in which Solomon says: "As for the whole concept of beaming something into one's home, that may come along someday, that's for sure. Well, I think there was a lot of stuff that Tower did not see coming." "Tower, in almost 40 years, had always grown," Hanks says. Hanks contends that Tower started acting as if it was just too big to fail. Solomon couldn't persuade the labels to lower their prices or start selling CD singles.īy then, music fans had already started turning to other options, from file-sharing sites like Napster to download stores like iTunes. And Tower couldn't persuade consumers to spend somewhere between $12 and $19 for an album. Tower couldn't afford to discount CDs much. Whereas at the record store, Tower Records, they needed everything in the basket to be profitable." "So if there was a lot of other items in there, they didn't care if it was music or not. "What they did was they looked at the basket - was the basket profitable?" Christman says. But they discounted CD prices drastically to get customers through their doors, in hopes that they'd also pile things like clothes, pet food, batteries and TVs into their shopping baskets. Big-box outlets like Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy wanted music fans' dollars, too. Tower's competitors weren't just other record stores. It was just the mood of the day - it was grow and go." "So they did a bond offering, and they were going to use that debt to drive global expansion. "There was at least 10 or 15 large chains that were racing to be the dominant force in music, and Tower decided to take on $110 million in debt," Christman says. "The things that proved to be a mistake, in hindsight, occurred in 1998."Ĭhristman says that Tower wasn't alone in the hunger to expand that eventually proved to be its undoing. "It took eight or nine years to unfold," Christman says. But in 2006, Tower declared bankruptcy.Įd Christman has been reporting on music retailers for Billboard magazine for 26 years. It became a multinational empire, with stores and licensees from London to Buenos Aires to Tokyo. Every day was fun, you know? Even the downs were fun." "Everybody got along, and it was such an amazing vibe. "Never in my life before, and probably never again, will I experience anything like that," Sumney says. Jason Sumney started out as a clerk at Tower's store at 4th and Broadway in New York before moving into its regional operations. Solomon's California inner circle eventually became some of Tower's top brass, and that family atmosphere spread as the company expanded. "And so he volunteered, 'Oh, I'll go down and fix it up, put some lighting in there, put a new floor in, and paint it.' And that was it. "Luckily, my cousin Ross was a builder - electrical, carpentry," Solomon says in the documentary. He tells Hanks how he got his friends and relatives to help him get off the ground. Tower started out as an offshoot of Solomon's father's drugstore in Sacramento, Calif. The Decade In Music: '00s 2006 And The Death Of Tower Records Each store represented its city or its neighborhood in the city. "Tower was, in essence, a bunch of mom and pop record stores, you know? Although they were all under the same banner, the same name, the same yellow-and-red signage, each one was run individually by the people in the stores: the clerks, the buyers for each individual store, the art department from each individual store. "New Orleans had a huge heritage music section Nashville had a gigantic country section," he says. Solomon let them decide what each store stocked, Hanks says. I mean, they just weren't employees that happened to work at a music store. "And it was a ritual, and it was a ritual I loved. "Tuesday mornings, I would be at Tower Records," John says in the film. Elton John talked to Hanks about how he'd go into one of the Los Angeles stores every week to buy stacks of new releases. During its flush years, Tower was a pilgrimage place for music fanatics - even for the world's biggest stars. In Hanks' documentary, you see founder Russ Solomon and his innermost circle - many of whom were there when Tower was founded in California - having a ball building this thing together.Įveryone, from clerks to customers, could feel those good vibrations. This happened about two times, but after the second time, I used the save feature to the cloud just to be on the safe side The only other problem I had was moving the cursor around some parts of the battle outline. I came back the next day, and it was gone. But it’s not only the enemy that can fire or hit you, but the enemy of the cold that can take a toll on you as well.Īnother issue I had was when I played my first hour and waited for everything to load, I went to the main menu just to make sure the saved portion was there. Luckily, depending on the situation, the character may be able to get revived which I am glad this ability was added, but being revived does not give you full health, so be careful with your second opportunity at life. This is where I had a problem and maybe it was designed this way, but if I have a character and they are on their last life and I move them away in behind obstacles, it seemed like the enemy on many occasions (not all) would just pin point them out and kill them off even though I had another character with more than enough health in their way, the enemy still ended up having incredible aim and killing my character that I am sure has issues due to the lack of vitamin D from the Sun, even thought she was hiding and had plenty of coverage. If they die and after the enemy’s turn, then for the most part, the round is over and you have to restart that round. If they get knocked out, they cannot be used for when it’s your turn. Being this is turn-based, chances are that some of your characters either will take damage or knocked out. This may be from a point being used to move to a couple of points for a headshot or even use overwatch which if you are using, if the enemy moves while it’s their turn, you can open fire at them.Įarlier I mentioned about hopefully your characters survive. Each characters has points that can be used. But you have to be careful how you go about the battle. And at times, regardless if you are ready for it or not, the only way to be able to proceed is to fight in the battle. Here, not only will you be trying to scavenge for items as well as trying to unlock new abilities to try and increase the characters that join you. For one is the exploration aspect of the game. But it won’t be easy as you will need to try and avoid any raids (some you can’t), investigate military headquarters, and at times (many times) walk into danger in hopes that your strategy skills and hopes that your characters survive (more on this in a few moments) in order to discover one of the three endings based on the decisions you make.ġ971 Project Helios really has parts to it. The story has eight characters who will need to join forces of finding a very important scientist that has been kidnapped by a massive stratocracy. The setting of a world that once was and now in post-apocalyptic times that works well. 1971 Project Helios is a turn-based strategy RPG game. |
